The essence of self-discovery

Scientists have proved that human brain is the same irrespective of gender. We are all good and genius in one way or the other in what we do. but have you wondered why some of us still fail some cause, pass at lower level while others excel despite our hard work and dedication to the cause?
It takes the personal understanding, discovery and knowledge of an individual’s carrying capacity and adherence to these traits for us to discover our real self. Although we all have the same brain, our absorbing rate is different. That is why you need to discover you real-self.
Imagine a situation were by you read in the class almost everyday, yet it still does not reflect on your end product( CGPA)while those that read for 2-3 hours about three times a week are excelling or somebody has materials for almost all the courses yet does not pass exams. What about people that go to class and still perform wonderfully well? That I what I termed self discovery.
Most you go to the class because others are going or when you feel like sleeping but realized you have not read for the day? Although the cardinal objective in this house is to study, it should be in the right frame of mind. So, how can we discover our real self?
The basic point is knowing your carrying capacity. Everybody has a saturation point. When you are reading and feels like sleeping, I beg no deceive yourself go sleep and wake up later to continue. You might end up deceiving and confusing yourself. What is the essence of going to the class to read and end up chatting up most of the time away with friends or listening to the noise around your environment .discover how many hours you think you can absorb what is before you and stick to it. Long stretched hours on a book are not ideal although depending on your carrying capacity.
Tutorials are another means of self discovery. The school might give you orientation but can never orient you about the psychology of any lecturer and approaches towards issues. Tutorial forums provides you with the opportunities for you to tap from the tutors experience and discuss issues that will serve as a principal guideline in you approach towards the respective courses. Most of the courses are not passed alone because of your jacking ability but also understanding the lecturer requirement on how they want questions and other issues to be tackled.
Group study or tutorial is another forum and quiet distinct from the other general; tutorials stated earlier. Experts believe that studying in a group is more fun and effective than studying alone especially if the range is having between three to five people in the group. That way, everybody will get a time to talk and makes sure he/she understands the topic of discussion. much success can be achieve if a person is selected to lead or chair every session sole to prevent the meeting form getting too social and getting everybody focused. My tutorial group is a major benefit to all of the explanation above. (At least, 95 percent of us are 2-1 student while the remaining 5 percent are very close).
Finally, to really discover your self, there is the need to look inward and balance the equation between your academic, spiritual and social life. Then the sky will be your stepping stone.

FRIEND

A
s the cock crow and the sun brass across my roof, then I knew it is time to open a new page. However, I was too lazy to help myself out of the bed as my favourite radio station played a lovely song by Michael Bolton, the title is “Lean On Me”. I love the song, not just because the rhythm was well composed to inspire one for the day’s task but because the lyrics were waxed to tell every listener the worth of a friend. This is however what informed the Pen Club stinting topic last week and here is what our members wrote about a friend.

To some a friend is someone you can lean on, count on, believe in, and share your dreams, thoughts, hopes and prayers with. Someone you feel safe with, someone you can trust with your secrets, someone you can go the extra mile with, someone you enjoys his/her company or like his behaviour. He/she is one who is generous, faithful, caring and God fearing.

Some maintained that a friend accepts you as you are, makes no demand to exploit you. Take you as you are without cloning or duplicating you to fit into his/her copy. He/she is one who doesn’t feel irritated or disappointed with you for seeming waywardness. Someone who loves you naturally, not because you are rich or poor, beautiful or ugly, gallant or cool, nice or wicked, brilliant or dull, but because he/she feels comfortable with you personality.

It is in the same vein that others wrote that a friend is one who is God fearing, honest, faithful, sincere and who doesn’t wear different characters as occasion demands. A friend is one who prays for and with you, on who always stand by to lend a helping hand. He laughs with you in your happy times, and share your sorrow with you. He is not one who stab you in the back and come back to apologize again and again, not one who speaks well about you in your presence and disdainfully gossips you when you turn your back. He/she is not one who always lead you to trouble or confusion. Your friend does not exploit you, the best of friends are always striving to earnestly and honestly contribute their quota in seeing that they attain the height they have always crave for.

It is on this note that I conclude that we all need a friend, no matter how hard we try to deny it. No one can be an island; we need others to be fulfilled since life may never be complete living independently. Albelt Schweitzer said “sometimes, our light goes out but is blown by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled the light.” However, the message here is to be careful in choosing your friend as your success in life depends on the type of association you have. Positive friends add colour to our lives and give us cause to b thankful to God for their present in our lives.

10 YEARS OF UNDEMOCRATIC DEMOCRACY NIGERIA

MAY 29 1999. Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar handed over power to an elected civilian leader Olusegun Obasanjo who was also a former military leader of the country. And in 2009 29th may, the country has witnessed it civilian to civilian transfer of power when Obasanjo had to hand over power to the incumbent president umaru yaradua when his tenure elongation plans failed to materialize.

the term nascent is till synonymous with the usage of democracy in Nigeria Despite 10 years of democracy in Nigeria. may be that is the reason for the high rate of undemocratic dividends in the country.
29th may 2009 mark a decade anniversary of democracy in Nigeria. What have we benefited from this concept when compared to other countries practicing this concept of government of the people, by the people and for the people?

Nigerian democratic regime is shadowed with much of the so-called problems associated with military rule. The military regime is popularly believed to be very corrupt, characterized with high rate of killings, nepotism and other forms of social and anti developmental vices (It confuses me on the prefer choice of leadership).

Despite the change of nomenclature from NEPA to PHCN, the situation of power generation in the country is very critical with every house using “I pass my neighbour” as a source of steady power supply. Little wonder the increase rate of global warming.

During this 10 years period, the country was rated the 3rd most corrupt country in the world despite the presence of EFCC and ICPC {anti corruption commissions). This evil maniac has been institutionalized in Nigerian and even beyond the shores of the country by Nigerians. The open battle between former president Olusegun Obasanjo and his vice Atiku over PTDF funds is not new. The arrest and the commando style escape of former Bayelsa state governor Depriye Alameseigha coupled with international embarrassment Joshua Dariye, Bode George, Tafa Balogun and Femi Fani kayode brought upon the good name of Nigeria are part of Nigerians democratic dividends.

Also, it was during this era that the last awonist and a great patriot chief Bola Ige was murdered in cold blood. Harry Marshall and Funsho Williams of blessed memory among other lost their live in the cause of our democracy to assains bullet. I guess this is another dividend of our democracy.
As if the numerous plane crashes is not enough, the incumbent government came up it a fallacy in the name of seven point agenda whose success and implementation is on the pages of newspapers and hyper propaganda in the broadcasting media. I guess that is politic and democracy in action.

These ten years of democracy has also witness the highest level of ethnic and religious intolerance in the country. Jos and Kaduna crisis are good example. Elder State men use this medium to execute their political will and further entrenched the demotion of democratization process in the country. To worsen the situation, this ugly trend has been relayed in our tertiary institution which ought to be the breading ground for Nigerians tomorrow’s leaders.

Although, democracy has revolutionalised the telecommunication sector despite the high tariff charges. But, the bad economy, increased unemployment, poor standards of living and even abused of the whole concept of democracy (we have imposed leaders) is on the increase instead of declining. Therefore, is this the way forward for our dear country?
